Thousands of bus passes due to expire

People who qualify for a concessionary bus pass are being reminded to get it renewed before the end of March.

Following the introduction of the over-60s national concessionary bus pass scheme in 2008, about 50,000 passes are due to expire on March 31.

Northamptonshire County Council is reminding people not to leave it too late to renew as they will be unable to use their existing pass after this date. Passengers can visit their local library to renew their bus pass.

Cllr Heather Smith, cabinet member for customer and community services, said: “With less than two months to go before we reach the expiration date, it’s vital that bus passengers visit a library to renew their pass sooner rather than later.

“Those people who leave it to the last minute are risking a possible delay in receiving their new pass, as with thousands of bus passes expiring on the same date, it will take time for library staff to process so many applications.”
