The organisers of a campaign to send gifts to troops in Afghanistan have thanked the public for their help.
Sara Simms, whose nephew serves there with the Royal Engineers, set up Treats for Troops with her daughter Emma Michael. The family is from Kettering.
They had set up donation points where people could drop off confectionery, toiletries and other items to be sent to soldiers – and even army dogs – in Afghanistan.
“We had a very good response,” said Sara, who added that more than 100 parcels will have been sent since the appeal was launched at the beginning of November last year.
She also said she had received thank you notes from senior officers saying how much the gifts had been appreicated.
Kettering’s Morrisons store set up a collection point for the appeal, which Corby Radio also publicised. Other local companies provided equipment to wrap up the donated items and send them off.
Sara and Emma hope they can run another appeal later this year.
