The team of people who help organise a town’s annual Christmas lights switch-on have been thanked for their hard work and dedication.
Rushden’s countdown to Christmas kicked off on Saturday with the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.
It followed a day of entertainment for all the family, including Santa arriving on his sleigh, reindeer, festive music and singing.
Entertainment was free at the event organised by Rushden Town Council’s events committee.
A spokesman for the town council said: “Once again we had a very successful light switch-on with hundreds of people attending the event.
“Our Christmas lights and decorations continue to improve year on year and this is because of the dedication and hard work of our councillors and volunteers.
“As a council we simply would not be able to afford to put on the events and displays we do without the time given freely by both councillors and volunteers.
“Cllr House and his team work tirelessly throughout the summer designing new lighting displays and a large team of councillors and volunteers put up and maintain the lights throughout the Christmas period.
“At a time when councils are being squeezed financially, it is reassuring that we have people in Rushden who are prepared to give their time freely to try and improve our town and create community spirit.
“A big thank you to all the councillors, volunteers, staff and participants who helped to make our Christmas event so successful and enjoyable for so many people.”
The town council has also thanked the Rotary Club and the Royal British Legion for their help and support with the road closures.
