Taxi driver fights off attacker in Wellingborough

A taxi driver fought off an attacker who grabbed him, pulled him out of the car and tried to steal the vehicle.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery in Birchfield Road, Wellingborough, which happened between 9.30pm and 9.45pm on Thursday, October 31.

A police spokesman said: “A taxi driver had parked in Birchfield Road after dropping off a fare.

“He was doing some paperwork when a man approached, grabbed the driver and pulled him out of the vehicle, which was a silver Vauxhall Vectra.

“Officers believe the offender intended to steal the vehicle, however, the victim managed to fight him off and he left empty-handed.

“The victim received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance staff.”

The attacker has been described as a white man in his 20s.
