Talks on future of healthcare

AN EVENT at which the future of healthcare services in Northamptonshire will be discussed is now fully booked up.

The Shaping Your Healthcare Services event has been organised by Nene Commissioning, the new organisation which is responsible for buying health services for the majority of Northamptonshire.

Nene Commissioning will take on full responsibility for this in April next year, along with Corby Healthcare.

Nene Commissioning will cover 600,000 patients, represent 78 GP practices and have a budget responsibility of £900m from April, while Corby Healthcare will represent 70,000 patients and six GP practices and have a budget responsibility of £70m.

The Shaping Your Healthcare Services public conference taking place on Tuesday, May 29, is now fully booked, with 200 members of the public and 50 healthcare professionals set to go along.

The event marks the beginning of the new arrangement, which will see local GPs and health practitioners working with the public to shape the future of healthcare.

Dr Darin Seiger, chairman of Nene Commissioning, said: “This is an exciting time for the NHS and changes to the way services are commissioned and who makes these decisions mean it is timely for us to meet with the public to find out what people’s priorities are.

“Nene Commissioning is at the forefront of these changes and we want to take you on the journey with us.”

Although the public conference is now fully booked, a reserve list is being drawn up so people can register their interest in attending. If a space becomes available nearer to the event they could be contacted and offered a place to attend.
