PEOPLE are being invited to take the first steps in shaping the future of their healthcare at an event later this month.
The Shaping Your Healthcare Services event is being held at Northampton Saints RFC’s Franklins Gardens ground from 9.30am to 3pm on Tuesday, May 29.
County residents are being urged to attend.
The public conference marks an important change in the NHS, which will see local GPs and health practitioners taking a far more hands-on role in health provision, working with the public.
The event has been organised by Nene Commissioning, the new organisation which is responsible for buying health services for the majority of Northamptonshire and will take on full responsibility for this in April 2013, along with Corby Healthcare.
Nene Commissioning chairman Dr Darin Seiger said: “This is an exciting time for the NHS and changes to the way services are commissioned and who makes these decisions means it is timely for us to meet with the public to find out what people’s priorities are.
“Nene Commissioning is at the forefront of these changes and we want to take you on the journey with us.”
From April 2013, local doctors and other medical professionals and patients can have a much stronger say in how and what the NHS spends it’s money on.
Local GPs have formed Clinical Commissioning Groups, which will be the local organisations responsible for spending the majority of the local health budget on services from hospitals to community nurses, to operations and prescriptions.
These changes are based on the idea that patients will enjoy better healthcare if decisions which affect local people can be made by local clinicians and patients.
The conference includes exhibition stands, free health checks, advice and information, interactive activities and presentations from GPs, and other health professionals.
