The venue in Rothwell Road, which incorporates the crematorium and burial grounds, is now licensed for weddings and will be set up for the occasion on Saturday (October 13) from 10am to midday.

The Edgar Newman Ceremony Room can hold up to 135 people while the garden pavilion offers a space for outdoor weddings, with up to 20 seated guests and standing room for more.

Kettering Council developed the new wedding venue after being asked if it was available for civil partnership and wedding ceremonies.

It consulted with the county’s registration service and funeral directors about the potential for re-developing Warren Hill before planning permission was granted in February.

Weddings and funerals will not be held on the same day and steps have been taken to ensure that the gardens remain a place of peace and reflection.

The council says that it is “an ideal venue for weddings, in the same way as any church or hotel performs a number of social functions”.

It has also said that Warren Hill will provide two distinct services - weddings and funerals - and that “neither should have any negative impact on the other”.

Cllr Ian Jelley, Kettering Council’s portfolio holder for strategic delivery, said: “This is a great idea to improve the services we provide for local people, to make even better use of one of our best assets and to earn additional income for the council.”

Bookings are now being taken for Saturday weddings.

The venue hire fee is £850 for a marriage or civil service ceremony.
