Storm Doris: How it is affecting Corby, East Northants, Kettering and Wellingborough

Reports are coming in of road closures and damage being caused by today's high winds.

Corby Council has said that roofing at the Rockingham Road shops and guttering at Studfall shops has blown off due to the strong winds.

The properties are still sealed and there have been no injuries.

Council staff have cordoned off the area on Rockingham Road and a member of staff is on site.

Due to the high winds no repair can be done at the moment but these will be carried out as soon as it is safe to do so.

Residents are advised to avoid the area unless necessary.

A minor amount of damage has been caused to the roof at Wellingborough Crematorium.

A Wellingborough Council spokesman said: “This was only to one small area over the offices but in the interest of public safety some of the public areas have been taped off.

“Contractors are on site to make urgent repairs. All services will still be held as planned.”

Pupils from the Ferrers School in Higham Ferrers have been sent home due to high winds.

Part of Hill Street in Raunds is closed due to roof damage and tiles falling in the wind.

A large tree is blocking Midland Road in Wellingborough and the railway bridge in Irthlingborough Road, Wellingborough.

Kettering and Rushden Household Waste Recycling Sites have closed their doors to the public today.

A tree has been uprooted in Cherwell Walk on the Shire Lodge estate in Corby.

Resident John Geddes said: “Luckily there was no damage or injury to anyone.”

Big branches are flying everywhere on the A6003 between Corby and Rutland, and there’s also a huge sign down at the Asda roundabout on Phoenix Parkway and a fence in the road at Corby MOT centre further down the road.

We’ve also had a report of a house collapsing in Corby but this has not been confirmed by the emergency services.

There is a tree down on the A605 between Oundle and Barnwell blocking part of the road.

The road from the World’s End pub at Ecton is closed towards Earls Barton, with drivers being diverted via Sywell.

Train passengers are being urged not to travel by rail today because of widespread disruption.
