Stepping out at night in the name of charity

SLIPPING the pyjamas on and going out for a stroll just before midnight might sound barmy, but hundreds turned out in their nightwear to raise cash for charity.

More than 400 people, many wearing their hair in bunches or clutching teddy bears, walked the 6km distance around Kettering for the annual walk on Saturday night. Starting at the Kettering Town Harriers Pavilion, the large group set off at 10pm and finished just before midnight. Money raised will go to Lakelands Hospice, Kettering General Hospital’s charity fund, Cransley Hospice, Wren Spinney Community Special School and the Inner Wheel of Huxloe.

Cransley Hospice fundraiser Diana Patrick said: “It was a fun event which not only raised a decent amount of cash for local charities but made a lot of people laugh.

“It’s not everyday people get to do something silly like walk around at night in their pyjamas.”

The amount raised has not yet been counted, but it is hoped it could be about £5,000.
