Residents in Corby are invited to join the 20 Million Steps walking challenge.
The aim is to get more people in the county fit and active through walking.
In Corby, from Friday (September 5) until Sunday (September 7) residents are being asked to jump on the treadmills at gyms in the town and tally up the amount of miles they walk.
On Saturday, from 10am until 3pm, people can also walk around the Cube as many times as they like. A card will be stamped showing the number of times they complete the circuit and the distance will be converted into miles and added to Corby’s grand total.
On Sunday there will also be a three-mile walk starting from Corby boating lake at 11am and taking in the surrounding woodlands. It is expected to last an hour.
Corby Council’s lead member for community, Cllr John McGhee, said: “Recent statistics for Northamptonshire have shown it to be the fifth fattest county in the country, so we are hitting back with our feet and showing just how active we can be. Whatever you are doing this weekend in Corby, take just one hour out and help add to the 20 million step challenge.”
