A steam, transport and family show at Rockingham Castle at the weekend has been cancelled after heavy rain left the grounds waterlogged.
The event was to have taken place on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1.
David Hoyles, event organiser, said: “It’s really disappointing as we had a great show lined up with a Scottish and Irish theme.
“We were at the castle on Sunday and the grounds were sodden. Rockingham Castle is a marvellous venue and it can usually take some bad weather but in recent weeks it’s been awful. The torrential rain has been disastrous for show organisers all over the country.
“It costs so much to stage a show like this and we will be out of pocket after cancelling it.
“It’s just one of those things. You can’t beat the British weather.”
The two-day event was to have included steam engines, transport and vintage vehicles, a dog agility demonstration, model aircraft and boats, a motor cycle display, a pipe band, Irish dancing, classic cars and shire horses.
Mr Hoyles said: “The show is organised by the Midlands Event Club. This year we had the Caravan Club taking part and several new attractions on the programme.
“It can’t be helped. We’ll be back at Rockingham Castle next year.”
