A church community has been devastated by vandalism at their church.

Several window panes were smashed during the attack on St Mary the Virgin Church in Higham Ferrers, but nothing was stolen.

Parishoners found candlesticks damaged and two church books were found in a nearby bin.

Now the church is counting the cost of replacing the stained glass windows.

The attack is thought to have happened after 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 24.

Windows in the church’s Bede House were also smashed through.

Church warden Anna Saunston said: “It’s just wanton violence. They did not want to steal anything.

“It’s a well-used church and I think a lot of people will be appalled with what has happened.”
