There were smiles all round at a supermarket as staff opened their bonus envelope.
Workers at the Waitrose supermarket in Rushden, which is part of the John Lewis Partnership, gathered yesterday morning to find out what their bonus would be.
John Lewis’ 75,000 staff were awarded bonuses equivalent to 14 per cent of their annual salaries, down from 18 per cent last year, but the staff at Waitrose in Rushden were still very pleased.
Branch partner Cassie Tilley was chosen to open the envelope yesterday morning as it is her 21st birthday today.
She said: “I am really happy with 14 per cent.
“We were all expecting less with the current climate.”
Branch manager Mark Daws was also pleased and paid tribute to everyone at the store.
He said: “This was totally unexpected, absolutely fantastic.
“I am thrilled for all branch partners and would like to thank them for all their hard work and support over the year.”
The bonus is equivalent to about seven weeks’ salary.
