Speight at the double as Doughboys fight back for Vase victory
Adam Speight was the hero for Wellingborough Town as they produced a stirring fightback to book their place in the second round of the Buildbase FA Vase.
The Doughboys looked to be heading out when they trailed 2-0 at half-time in their first-round clash at London Colney.
But the introduction of Speight and Jeremiah Adams eventually made the big difference.
They got back into the game when Shaun Wilkes chipped the home goalkeeper.
Speight sent the game into extra-time with a wonder-strike from the corner of the penalty area.
And he also grabbed the winner in the extra 30 minutes when he side-footed home after a mazy run from Adams.
Wellingborough will now be in the draw for the second round alongside Future Lions United Counties League rivals Desborough Town on Monday.
In the UCL Premier Division league action, Desborough Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Cogenhoe United.
And Rothwell Corinthians went down by the same scoreline against high-flying Daventry Town at Sergeants Lawn.
Whitworth, meanwhile, went out of the Knockout Cup as they were beaten 4-2 at Kirby Muxloe.
Rushden & Higham United took the derby honours in Division One as they claimed a 2-0 victory at Burton Park Wanderers.
