Special Jamaican night to mark the end of Wellingborough beach

The Wellingborough beach opened on the first weekend in August, just in time for the mini heatwave which recently hit most of the UK.

The beach extravaganza, which for the first time is located in the Market Place, will be in place until Saturday, August 27.

To celebrate the closing of the sandy structure the Wellingborough Business Improvement District (BID) has organised a one-off special Jamaican evening.

Freshly prepared Jamaican cuisine cooked by Jamrock Food, which is based in Cambridge Street, will be served up alongside some cocktails.

The event, which will also include a steel live band, will start from 5.30pm and finish at about 8pm.

BID manager John Cable said: “Families have flocked to the free beach activity and we felt holding a special Jamaican night would be the perfect way to bring it to an end.

“Once again, the event has proven to be a huge success and we are very proud to have brought such joy and fun to the families of Wellingborough and surrounding areas.”

This year’s beach has also had a nearby helter-skelter, swing boats and a photo wall.

There have also been magic tricks, balloon modelling and Punch and Judy shows at weekends throughout August.

Several charities have been in attendance at the beach at different times helping to raise awareness of their causes and encourage donations.

Chelsea’s Angels, Storm Community Arts Group, Niamh’s Next Step and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) have all laid on various activities, including face painting and a tombola.
