A social group for widowed women is looking for more members.
Jolly Dollies Social Network for Widows was started by widows for widows whose main objective is to help widows regain a social life through friendship and organised social events.
Its aim is to connect widows locally and nationally, so that The Jolly Dollies network can reach all those widows who want and deserve to have a full, happy and supportive social life.
The network currently has two members in Kettering, one in Daventry and one in Sywell.
One of the group’s founders, Yvonne Vann, said: “After I lost my husband almost eight years ago, I met a widow who was in a similar situation to me.
“We started to go out occasionally and after a while through ‘word of mouth’ other widows joined us.
“It was then that I realised there are so many women in the same situation as me and if our little group could find friendship and understanding then why shouldn’t it work for other widows.
“Just over 18 months ago the Jolly Dollies Social Network for Widows website was launched.
“We have groups starting up all over the UK from Glasgow down to Plymouth. We need help to get the word out there so that we can reach widows everywhere.”
The network operates by passing on the contact details of interested members to existing nearby members who will make contact and arrange a ‘taster’ meeting.
Becoming a member will give access to the group’s online forums, newsletters, member benefits for shopping online and more.
Yvonne said: “The greatest benefit is belonging to a group of women of all ages, who meet in local groups for social events organised by our members.
“We get together, support each other, chat and give ourselves permission to be jolly and have fun.”
