The countdown to Christmas has officially begun in Kettering.
The late-night shopping event and Christmas lights switch-on took place on Thursday, November 27, with a Santa’s sleigh and stalls in Market Place, as well as a big screen.
Hundreds of people turned out to see the stars of the Lighthouse Theatre’s Aladdin Kevin Tillett (Widow Twanky) and Mark Wingett (Abanazer), Poppies favourite Brett Solkhon and the Hotsie Totsies singing group turn on the lights.
The crowds were also entertained by members of the Anderson School of Dance, Latimer Arts College Vocal Ensemble, Starlight Dance and K Factor winner Lakshmi Kowdley, 11.
Upcoming events in the town include on Saturday, December 6, a carol event in Market Place in combination with a national event called Small Business Saturday – aimed at encouraging people to use independent traders.
There will be big-screen showings of Frozen at 5pm on Thursday, December 11, The Polar Express at 5pm on Thursday, December 18, and Miracle on 34th Street at 3pm on Saturday, December 20.
A teenage market will be held in Market Place on Saturday, December 13, and on Saturday, December 20, there will be a market.
