Staff and volunteers who support homeless people will be sleeping rough to raise money for their centre.

Workers at the Daylight Centre in Wellingborough will be joined by representatives from the NHS and a health and safety company on the sleepout, which is being held on Saturday, January 28. The following day on Homelessness Sunday the centre will open to the public to raise more money for its work.

Centre manager Angela Long said: “One of our priorities is supporting homeless and vulnerable people.

“By taking part in the sleepout we hope to gain a greater appreciation of what they go through and raise awareness of their situation.”

The eight sleepout volunteers have raised about £1,600 in sponsorship and are keen to attract more donations.

On the Sunday the centre will open from 8.30am to 1.30pm, serving breakfasts in the morning and lunches from 11.30am.

Admission is free but there will be a charge for the meals. There will also be stalls selling goods. The proceeds will go towards the centre which needs to raise about £50,000 a year to keep running.
