Skate park is voted UK best

CORBY’S indoor urban skate park has been named as the UK Park of the Year by a BMX magazine’s readers.

Adrenaline Alley, in Arnsley Road, was given the prestigious honour following an online poll run by Ride UK BMX Readers Awards.

The skate park beat competition from the biggest skate park in the country, Rampworx in Liverpool, and Unit 23, the largest in Scotland. The award was presented to founder Mandy Young at a ceremony in London.

Mrs Young said: “It’s a great honour and recognition for all of the hard work put in to the facility. We weren’t aware of it until a week before the event when we got a call to say we had been nominated and then it turned out we had won.

“It was something you just hoped you would come out at the top of the voting system. If people know the park has been named as number one in the UK, hopefully more people will come from far and wide. We would like to say a big thank-you to the Ride UK Magazine readers and everyone who voted for us.”

The award came at the end of a year of success when the centre expanded to open a disability area, had a bumper Christmas holiday period which attracted 400 to 450 users a day, launched a scooter-only area and trialled an outdoor dirt jump.

Mrs Young, who set up Adrenaline Alley as a safe place for young people to participate in urban sports after her late son John was beaten up with his own skateboard, said the centre also hopes to expand this year.
