A great-great-great-grandmother will celebrate her 100th birthday surrounded by five generations of her family today.
Elsie Barlow’s family will gather at the Rosendale Nursing Home in Kettering for a party to celebrate the landmark.
Granddaughter Suzanne Cottrell, 61, of Rothwell, said: “It’s lovely for her.
“We all still visit her regularly and that’s what keeps her so alert.”
Born in Brigstock, Mrs Barlow married young and had her first daughter, Maureen, now 82, at 17.
Baby Layla made it six generations of women when she was born last September.
After marrying John, who worked at the steelworks in Corby, Mrs Barlow moved to Weldon.
Mr Barlow died 44 years ago, aged 60.
Mrs Barlow was talented at knitting, sewing and crochet and only stopped needlework in her 90s, when her eyesight failed.
Mrs Cottrell said: “That’s what kept her so agile with her fingers.”
The family are planning to take cake for the party at the Rockingham Road nursing home.
