Shoppers check out Corby's new M&S foodhall as it opens for business

Shoppers queued to be among the first through the doors for the opening of Corby's new M&S foodhall.

The wait was finally over when Corby mayor Julie Riley joined staff at the new store at the Phoenix Retail Park in Courier Road at 10am today (Wednesday) for the official opening.

Store manager Caroline Hemming greeted customers as they made their way in to be one of the first to see inside the new foodhall, which will stock more than 6,000 food and drink lines.

Caroline, who has been a store manager in Stamford for three years, said: “It is absolutely fantastic.

“We have 56 employees who have all done an amazing job for today.

“Of that 56, only two were recruited internally and 47 were recruited from the Corby area.”

She said the staff have had just three weeks to get ready for the first day of business, but they have worked hard in that time, including engagement days and training.

Caroline said she and her team were very excited about the new store and they have had lots of interest from people wanting to know when it was opening.

She added: “In terms of Corby, I think it is going to bring something a little different and some luxury to the people of Corby.

“It’s very exciting.”

More than 98 people have been working on-site to get the 7,700 sq ft shop ready for today’s opening.

About seven articulated lorries were needed to fill the store with products and more than 7,200 trays of fresh products were delivered in the week leading up to the opening.

The store will stock 578 wines from 14 countries across the world and the Christmas range of food contains 250 seasonal lines.

It’s bakery will produce 12,200 bread products and 18,500 patisseries in the first month.

The store’s opening hours are 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
