The Castle Fields Community Group (CFCG) has received a small grant from Northamptonshire Community Foundation to collect people’s stories of life in and around the Castle Fields park area of Wellingborough.

They will then use this information to write and perform a play later in the summer.

A spokesman for the CFCG group said: “We hope this project will bring the many people from our area together and help us to get to know each other and share our history of life in Wellingborough.

“We are very excited about this project and look forward to meeting and sharing with you all.”

In the coming months, they will be visiting various community groups to describe the project and invite them to take part.

These meetings are likely to take place in May.

Individuals are also being invited to share their memories by either writing them out and emailing or posting them in or a member of the group will come out to do an interview.

And they would love to see any pictures or memorabilia people have which could be shared.

In June, there will be a number of workshop sessions on Thursday evenings at the Victoria Centre.

The sessions will provide a space for all participants to share their stories and for the group to collectively start creating a play together with some original music to go along with it.

The spokesman added: “We are hoping many individuals from the diverse groups and communities of Wellingborough will want to take part; young, old, disabled, able-bodied, gay, straight and people from the many different ethnic groups and cultures that make up our community.

“The workshops are free but you will need to register beforehand.”

It is hoped that the play will be performed on the bandstand in Castle Fields Park in August.

Anyone who wants to take part or to volunteer for the project can contact Karon Turner-Hawes via email on [email protected] or call 01933 381467.
