Sex offender is jailed for 13 years

A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed after being convicted of sex offences against children as young as 13.

John Hanson, of John Gray Road, Great Doddington, was sentenced to 13 years in prison yesterday by a judge at Northampton Crown Court.

The 40-year-old, who had previously denied the offences, was found guilty of 14 counts of rape and sexual assault against two different children.

Judge Michael Fowler, sentencing, said: “You have been before the court previously for offences of dishonesty and there is an element of deception and manipulation which runs through all of these offences.

“You were convicted on the clearest evidence and you have now admitted the offences.

“You committed the grossest of sexual offences.

“One of your victims is a young lady who has had the courage to come to court and give evidence – it is obvious the effect your behaviour has had on her young life.

“It was no less appalling to have abused the boy when he was aged 13 and 14 – one can only imagine the distress you must have caused.

“I impose this sentence to reflect the fact there was more than one offence of rape and other offences which aggravate the sentence.”

Hanson sexually abused two children, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He was also given a lifetime sexual offences order, which bans him from having contact with anybody under the age of 18.

He was not tried for a charge relating to downloading indecent images.

This will instead lie on his file. The judge added: “It seems to me you do represent a danger to children and it will only be with the passage of time, serving the sentence and taking the opportunities available to you that this danger will be reduced.”
