The head was found at a quarry in Mepal, near Ely, on Monday but no other body parts have yet been found.

It is believed the skip originated from 40 miles away in Bedfordshire and crime scene investigators have remained at the Mepal quarry and construction site it Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, since the discovery.

A post-mortem examination on the head came back inconclusive but detectives revealed the victim probably died before 2015.

A police spokeswoman said: “We are still keeping an open mind as to what happened. The head does have teeth which will form part of the investigation.”
