Seven skips of people’s rubbish collected

ENOUGH rubbish to fill seven skips was collected during an estate spring clean.

Housing association Wellingborough Homes put out skips on the Queensway estate in Wellingborough after tenants asked for support to clean up their neighbourhood.

Four large builders’ skips were positioned in four areas of the estate.

They were only due to be on site for a day but after a good response, the project was extended to a second day.

The event was part of the housing association’s plans to help tenants keep areas tidy, which include regular litter picks and estate walkabouts to identify and resolve issues.

Wellingborough Homes area team leader Selina Bhambra said: “The initiative was a huge a success, offering tenants and other local residents the chance to clear out unwanted items which aren’t covered by the regular waste collection.

“Clean-up events like this can help guard against fly-tipping in communal areas, which can be a common problem on estates.

“We’re committed to acting on feedback from tenants and are pleased that in this instance we could help by taking direct action while promoting the benefits of keeping estates clean and tidy.”
