Organisers hope more money than ever before will be raised from an annual swimathon in aid of Kettering Samaritans.

Twenty-seven swimmers swam more than 20 miles between them, with Alan Moorehead (two miles) and Martin Hill (one and a half miles) among the top performers.

Nine-year-old Charlie Brown swam more than a mile – a total of 70 lengths – while Alana Swain, 10, also swam a mile.

The Samaritans, who raised £2,400 at last year’s event and hope to beat that this year once the funds have been counted, have thanked staff at Wellingborough pool for their support.
