A new-look coffee shop in Earls Barton has been officially opened by a Saints and England star.

Tom Wood opened the Apothocoffee Shop in the family-run visitor attraction Jeyes yesterday (Monday, June 8).

Jeyes of Earls Barton, was established in 1981 by David and Georgina Jeyes.

The award-winning Apothocoffee shop opened in Jeyes in 1991 and has become a well-loved destination for locals and tourists.

A shop spokesman said: “After winning Independent Tea Room of The Year in The Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards in 2014 we were outgrowing the traditional quaint coffee shop so we decided a move and makeover was needed.

“The new coffee shop is now open and busier than ever with our afternoon teas becoming famous across Northamptonshire.

“Tom Wood visits with his family and always says he loves our warm and friendly service and delicious home-made lunches and cakes.“

The 28-year-old flanker, who was there with his partner, Sarah, and two of their three children, said: “Sarah and I are good friends with Philippa and Chris Jeyes-Blackburn, who I go hunting, shooting and fishing with.

“I think it’s great what the Jeyes family have done with the business.

“I don’t get to come over here very often because of my training schedule, but get to hear about it a lot as Sarah is often here.

“I am definitely making sure I have a few bits of cake though as I’m one of the skinny rugby players who is able to eat pretty much those kind of things.

“We have a nutritionist who works out a specific diet for each of us players, because it’s very different from individual to individual.”
