Chefs at a county curry house have come up with a show-stopping dish for Saints fans ahead of their big clash with Leicester Tigers at Twickenham on Saturday.
The award-winning team at Saffron, in Castilian Street, Northampton, have created the Saints Sambuca Massala – featuring a ring of fire around the main dish itself - and the curry will be on sale at the restaurant all week in the run-up to the Aviva Premiership Final.
The flame-filled dish features a carefully crafted blend of ingredients with the addition of real culinary theatre, as the chefs set light to a circle of Sambuca just before serving.
Saffron manager Naz Islam said: “Saturday is a huge occasion for Saints.
“It doesn’t get much bigger than the Aviva Premiership Final, especially when it’s against your local rivals.
“After creating the Boothroyd Balti for Cobblers last week we knew we had to do something similar for Saints this weekend and we think we’ve raised the bar with this.
“Saints are known for their black, green and gold colours so we have replicated that in the dish.
“A green curry is served on a black plate, surrounded by a ring of golden flames.
“It is a spectacular sight and just the thing to whet fans appetites ahead of the big game this weekend.”
A survey has claimed chicken tikka massala is the UK’s most popular restaurant dish and statistics have revealed that one in seven curries sold in the UK is chicken tikka masala.
Saffron bosses hope that by adding a few new tweaks to a classic, they can help increase its popularity even further in the days leading up to the Twickenham showpiece.
Mr Islam said: “We are hoping this dish can fire up the Saints players and help them run rings around the Tigers on Saturday.”
The Saints Sambuca Massala comes served with rice and costs £6.95.
