A decision on whether planning permission for the £50m Rushden Lakes shopping and leisure park is allowed to stand, or whether it should be reviewed by a planning inspector, is expected to be made by November 20.

The Secretary of State has acknowledged to East Northamptonshire Council the receipt of the planning application for Rushden Lakes and is considering whether to refer it to the planning inspectorate for review.

His decision is expected by Tuesday, November 20.

East Northamptonshire Council voted unanimously to grant planning permission for the retail application at a meeting of the development control committee on Wednesday, October 10.

Rob Back, head of planning services said: “We are pleased to have confirmation that the application is now in the hands of the Secretary of State.

“People in the area are very excited at the prospect of having Rushden Lakes and we’re confident that the eagerness of the local community will be felt in London and the decision made locally by this council will stand.”
