The announcement comes after this year’s event was cancelled due to the weather and a scaled back event was held in its place at a different location.

A statement issued today (Friday) by Rushden Historical Transport Society, which organises the annual event, says it is planning to hold more specialist events through the year instead.

The statement said: “After many successful years of running the Rushden Historical Transport Society Cavalcade unfortunately the event will no longer take place in the original format.

“Due to ever increasing costs, new health and safety legislation, the staffing required, the challenge every year of the weather early in the year and the financial risks of running the event make this an unviable proposition for the

future, therefore the trustees have decided to offer alternative events.

“We are now planning more specialist events throughout the year at the new Goods Shed at Rushden Station.

“We realise that the loss of the Cavalcade after 39 years is a great disappointment to all of its followers but this decision has not been taken lightly.

“Rushden is not unique in having to cope with rising costs as a number of events throughout the country are experiencing the same problems.

“Please be assured that the events being planned for next year will be interesting, exciting and fun.

“Thank you for your support over the previous years which has been greatly appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you to our events in 2019.
