Royal Anglians move into Corby

An Army Reserve unit is now parading in Corby, after acquiring a training centre in the town.

A detachment of 2 Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment, will be based at the Army Reserve Centre in St Marks Road, Corby, and train each Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and on selected weekends.

The sub-unit paraded for the first time at its new location on Wednesday, November 16, with current reservists from its Leicester-based headquarters in attendance to give a presentation on the range of training which can be undertaken including; live firing, infantry skills, sports and adventure training.

Lieutenant Colonel Keith Spiers, Commanding Officer of 3 Royal Anglian, said: “Corby is an exciting new addition to the Battalions training locations in what is one of the country’s fastest growing towns.

“In addition, we are igniting their historical links with Northamptonshire by opening a detachment in Corby.

“The regiment has always recruited excellent infantry soldiers from this and surrounding counties and is looking for new recruits to join this vibrant reserve battalion.

“In 30 years’ service I have not seen a more exciting time to be a reservist with a plethora of opportunities.

“In the past year, soldiers have been deploying all around the world from between two weeks to six months.

“We are encouraging individuals who are willing, keen, ambitious and have a sense of adventure to visit us and see if they would like to join.”

2 Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment, is part of one of the most operationally experienced Army Reserve units, with its soldiers taking part in overseas operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Cyprus in recent years.

The battalion has also taken part in training exercises in Kenya, Nigeria, Croatia and Slovenia.

There is a variety of roles available in the unit for individuals who do or do not have previous military experience. These include infantry soldier, clerks, chefs and medics.
