A road closure order has been granted to allow for work to be carried out on a bridge in Wellingborough.
Network Rail has obtained a road closure order for a section of the B571 Irthlingborough Road from October 15 until April 11 next year.
It is to allow for demolition and reconstruction of the bridge over the railway lines.
While the order is for a period of nearly six months for seven days per week and 24-hours per day on occasions, Network Rail had told the Northants Telegraph it would not be closing the road for the entire period.
However, Network Rail has today (Tuesday) said it will be closing the road from Monday (October 15).
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “We have been granted a temporary traffic restriction to close the bridge at Irthlingborough Road in Wellingborough from Monday, October 15.
“We had previously advised that we would not close the road on this date, however, that is no longer the case and the road will close from this date.
“This bridge needs to be upgraded in anticipation of electrifying the line between Bedford and Kettering.
“A clearly signposted diversionary route will be in place and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the work.
“We’d like to thank motorists for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
