World class BMX riders are expected to draw crowds of hundreds of spectators to the county this summer.

Rushden Jam 11 will return to Jubilee Park in the town later this month to showcase the talents of an array of professional and amateur BMX riders.

And this year visitors have been promised even more excitement with the introduction of performances by scooter riders.

The popular event is organised by a group of BMXers and is supported by Rushden Town Council.

Town councillor Gill Mercer said: “This year for the first time not only will there be the usual thrills and spills on the ramps by the BMX riders, there will also be exhibitions and competitions on scooters as well.

“Professional BMX bikers will once again give demonstrations and compete alongside amateurs. The extra ramps will again be available plus the dirt ramps which have produced spectacular displays for the past few years.

“This free event gives people an opportunity to see world class BMX skills and allows amateurs also to show off their skills on BMX, skateboards, scooters and inline skates.”

The event will take place from 11am to 7pm on Sunday, August 26, and free car parking is available in the park in Bedford Road.

Competitors must wear helmets and suitable clothing when competing and adhere to strict safety rules.
