There was sad news in Rushden, where nine-year-old youngster Zac Knighton-Smith lost a five-year battle against the childhood cancer neuroblastoma. He died on New Year’s Day.

There was grim news for hundreds of people employed at Corby-based sandwich firm Solway Foods in February when it announced that 900 people could lose their jobs.

New owners later took over the site with the loss of about 500 jobs.

In Kettering, police issued a warning to teenagers and schoolchildren after a spate of five terrifying knifepoint robberies across the town in the space of a week.
