The Northants Telegraph has been given a sneak preview of the renovated Nene Centre ahead of its re-opening in September.
The new-look leisure centre, in Cedar Drive, Thrapston, will now boast extra facilities, including a new steam room and sauna, and extra gym equipment.
The centre was closed last year due to structural problems with the roof, but it will re-open on Monday, September 2.
The project has over-run by two months, but East Northants Council insists the delays have not caused the work to go over budget.
Now Cllr Phillip Stearn, chairman of the leisure working group which is responsible for overseeing the work, said that he is looking forward to the re-opening and is urging people to come and check out the new revamped centre.
He said: “There are 65 gym stations and 65 people can work at those machines and we’ve increased that from 35 that were here before.
“That brings more people in, more income, more memberships, which is obviously what we’re looking for.”
As well as extra gym equipment, the centre now boasts a sauna and steam room, and there will now be two studios on site for activities such as spinning classes.
The swimming pool has also been renovated and the cafe will return to the centre.
Cllr Stearn said the council has ensured the centre is completed to a high standard and he hopes people will enjoy the extra facilities on offer.
