A restaurant owner has had a busy couple of days after his restaurant won accolades in two awards ceremonies.
Mohammed Hussain, who owns The Royal Tandoori in Rockingham Road, Corby, tasted victory in the Asian Curry Awards when his restaurant was named the best South Asian Restaurant in the Midlands at a ceremony in London on Sunday (November 25).
The restaurant was also one of just 100 restaurants shortlisted out of 10,000 nominations for the British Curry Awards, the industry’s Oscars. The winners of this prestigious award were announced on Monday (November 26) and although The Royal Tandoori did not win the overall prize, just reaching the finals was an achievement. Mr Hussain said: “It was the first time we’d been nominated and no first-time nominee has ever won. We know exactly what the judges are looking for now, which will help us next year.”
Commenting on being named the best South Asian Restaurant in the Midlands, he said: “The feeling was amazing when we were announced as the winners. We are so proud to win this accolade as it shows that hard work is recognised and ultimately pays off. A big thank you to all our customers who support us and also our friends and family and staff who have been my rock.
“The British Curry Awards on Monday was an amazing experience as well. It was a fantastic evening with guests including Theo Pathitis, Shane Ritchie, Ragha Omar, Jenny Bond, Max Clifford, Rory Bremner and Roy Walker, of Catchphrase fame, among a host of MPs and dignitaries.”
