Residents to give a royal performance for the Queen

RESIDENTS are invited to audition for a royal performance being staged for the Queen when she visits Corby next month.

Singers, actors and dancers are being given the chance to be part of the production, which is expected to involve around 50 performers from the town.

The date and venue of the performance, being co-ordinated by The Core theatre, Corby, will be announced at a later date.

Creative director at the theatre, Chris Sudworth, said: “It’s a great boost for Corby that the Queen is visiting the town as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

“We’ve got a wealth of artistic talent in the area, so I’m delighted that people from a wide range of Corby’s communities will have the chance to be involved in putting together a really memorable performance that will celebrate the energy and unique identity of the town.”

Auditions are being held on Monday, from 6.30pm till 9.30pm, for a community choir being formed especially for the Diamond Jubilee visit on Wednesday, June 13, or Thursday, June 14.

Anyone 14 and over is welcome to apply, including members of existing choirs.

There will also be a physical theatre performance, to be directed by Scott Graham, the Corby-born artistic director of the internationally-acclaimed theatre company Frantic Assembly. Performers from 14 to 30 can audition to take part on Tuesday, from 6pm till 9.30pm.

On Wednesday, from 6pm until 9pm, contemporary, street and break dancers over 13 will be able to audition for a performance being created by award-winning Northamptonshire choreographer Marso Riviere, who runs the Moves classes at The Core theatre.

Music for the performance will be provided by the It’s Our Music project, a collaboration between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and local young musicians.

Anyone interested in taking part in the event should contact Mr Sudworth, by calling 01536 470478 or emailing to find out more and to book a place at the auditions.
