MOST 80-year-olds enjoy a quiet life but one group of plucky pensioners gave teenagers a run for their money when they performed a Lady Gaga number.
Four residents of Rosewood Court, Irthlingborough Road, Wellingborough, aged between 81 and 84, performed to the American singer’s hit Poker Face in a talent show.
Dressed in specially-made poker face outfits, created using playing cards, they were joined on stage by Rosweood Court staff members as they strutted their stuff.
The event was organised by the home’s parent company, Extra Care, and it showcased talent from homes across the region.
After a Viva Las Vegas theme was selected for this year’s show, which took place in Milton Keynes on May 9, staff selected a Vegas gambling theme for their number.
Lady Gaga’s number one hit, Poker Face, seemed the obvious mu
sical choice, according to activities coordinator Megan Neilan, who was among the performers.
She said: “Every year we do a regional talent show and all of the homes within the region get together and submit an act. This year’s theme was ‘Viva Las Vegas’, so we came up with the idea of using the song Poker Face and we decided to make costumes out of playing cards.
“It wasn’t a contest this year, but everyone in the audience was laughing and getting involved.
“They were all brilliant and they all loved it. Even the residents who didn’t go along were very much involved in the preparation.
“And they all know who Lady Gaga is now, every day someone comes down and says ‘that Lady Gaga was on the radio earlier’.”
