Reduce waste and compost more

REDUCE waste and compost more – that is the message to people in Kettering as part of a council-led initiative.

It is International Compost Awareness Week and an Environmental Day is being held at Asda car park, in Northfield Avenue from 10am to 3pm today.

The event is taking place to mark the 12th annual compost awareness week.

Experts will be on hand to give their top tips, answer any questions and demonstrate the benefits of home composting.

There will also be a chance to win one of two Readers Digest gardening books.

Head of environmental care Brendan Coleman said: “This is a great event for anyone with an established garden or thinking of becoming green fingered to find out a wealth of information from our experts and receive a free bag of compost to help them.

“By home composting, residents can prevent approximately one third of their waste going to landfill and the great news is very little effort is required to produce excellent compost.”
