The fire service is looking to recruit more retained firefighters in the county and is holding a number of events where people can find out more about the role.

Visitors to Long Buckby Fire Station in Station Road will be able to experience first-hand some of the exercises firefighters undergo as part of their training at a recruitment event for retained firefighters being held between midday and 4pm tomorrow (Saturday, July 2).

During the event, tips on home fire, road and water safety will be available and members of the public will also have the chance to look around various fire engines.

Group manager Warren Ellison said: “We are very keen to attract more people in to serve their community in the Fire and Rescue Service, working as retained firefighters.

“We are encouraging applications from groups of people who are currently underrepresented in the service, such as women.

“Anyone interested in applying for vacancies at Long Buckby, or elsewhere in the county, is invited to get in contact - we would be keen to hear from you.”
