Re-enactors bring wartime era to park

The sights and sounds of Britain during the Second World War will be brought to Wicksteed Park next Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9.

The park is hosting its third annual Wicksteed at War event, and this year is promising a huge display of military vehicles, a 1940s-themed big band dance, and a number of Second World War re-enactments.

A fire engine display is also being hosted near to the park’s lake and SAS training will be provided by veteran SAS soldier and television pundit Bob Podesta.

Among the highlights of the weekend for aviation enthusiasts will be the flypast of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Hurricane fighter and Lancaster bomber on the Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The event runs between 9am and 5pm on both days.

Entry to the show is free, although there will be a £6 fee for car parking on both days.
