Raunds couple who met at school celebrate 60th wedding anniversary
A Raunds couple who first set eyes on each other in school are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.
Irene and Brian White, both aged 80, married at St Peter’s Church in Irthlingborough in 1957.
Irene recalled how they met, but says it wasn’t until they were introduced for a second time that they fell in love.
She said: “We were at school together, there’s only a week between our birthdays.
“I saw Brian again some years later and that’s when our relationship started.
“Our wedding was a lovely day.”
The couple lived in Irthlingborough before moving to Raunds 13 years ago.
They had a celebratory party at Jester’s in Raunds on Sunday (March 19) with all of their family and friends.
Brian, who was in the Navy before working with motorcycles, said: “We have had 60 years of wonderful marriage and I still love Irene as much as I did then.
“She has been a wonderful wife, mother and nan.”
Irene added: “He’s a soppy little devil!
“We love our family very much and they are so good to us.”
The couple have two children, Alison and Debbie, as well as two sons-in-law, Gus and Andy.
They also have four grandchildren – Hannah, Lawrence, Georgia and Phoebe.
