Numbers watching were down as a downpour during the judging soaked the entrants.

The sun came out as the parade reached the Recreation Ground and a smaller than normal crowd came into the field.

The crowd dodged the rain showers during the afternoon to watch the entertainment and to support the stall holders.

Carnival chairman Michael Crick said: “Despite the rain we had a good parade, unfortunately it was marred by the weather.

“We have made a profit to distribute to local charities but the amount is substantially down on the last few years.

“The committee would like to thank those people that did brave the weather and turn up to support us and we will be back again next year.”
