People in Northampton are being warned not to give personal details to a Facebook page claiming Radio One’s Big Weekend could be coming to Northampton.

A series of Facebook pages have been set up asking people to vote for their favourite ‘city’, including Northampton, to host the Big Weekend this year.

More than 7,000 people have joined the hoax Northampton Facebook page, which asks people to vote for the town to host the annual music event.

However, after being asked about the page on its official Facebook account this morning, a spokesman for Radio One said the pages were “nothing to do with them.”

The spokesman said: “All information about Big Weekend will come direct from us either on this page, our website or our other social accounts. Please do not give these pages any of your personal information.

“It’s rubbish that a small group try to ruin things for other people.”

This year’s Radio One big Weekend is due to be held in Norwich next month.
