A Radio 1 newsbeat reader helped to re-launch a campaign to save a historic under-threat church.
Chris Smith attended the re-launch of the campaign to save St Peter’s Church in Raunds today (Sunday, September 30).
The 800-year-old church is at risk of falling down in the years ahead if work is not carried out. It is in desperate need of repair after major cracks appeared throughout the west end of the building.
Movement in the south west corner is so severe that urgent underpinning is needed to save the building. A total of £48,000 has been raised so far, but a further £950,000 is required to meet the repair bill of around £1 million.
Chris, who is originally from Raunds, was keen to lend his support to the charity campaign to save the church.
Joan Jones, spokesman for the save St Peter’s committee, said: “We are delighted to have such high profile support.”
