Kettering Home-Start held a quiz night at Walgrave Village Hall in October - and having now counted all the money, they have raised a fantastic £4,000.

More than 100 people participated in the quiz to help the popular charity, which offers support and help to young families across the borough of Kettering.

The charity is having to find £75,000 a year to keep functioning after their county council grant was cut, but chairman David Gwinn says they are determined to continue to offer support.

He said: “The organisation is motivated to keep moving forward and determined not to let down the 100 or so families it currently supports.

“The next major fundraising event is a ‘call my bluff’ wine tasting to be held on February 25, once again at Walgrave village Hall, which will not be just about wine tasting but promises to be just a great fun evening for anybody wishing to attend.”

Kettering Home-Start is also currently looking for volunteers to work with families and are planning an induction course for potential helpers on starting on January 12.

Volunteers come from a wide background and can offer help and advice from their own experience of raising young families covering a variety of tasks such as home budgeting and juggling the stresses of running a home along with basic child care and educational issues.

Established 22 years ago the charity has a great track record working with young families in a mentoring capacity and offers support to young parents who can sometimes find the addition of a new family a strain on domestic life.
