Pub could be given an external makeover

A HISTORIC pub has applied to build an extension and an outdoor seating area.

Bosses at the Prince of Wales in Dalkeith Place, Kettering, has applied for permission to make changes to the pub to help it compete in the modern pub marketplace.

It sits in a conservation area but the owners have pledged that they will not change the character of the building.

Their plan is to demolish two single-storey, flat-roofed extensions to the pub which are not part of the original building.

The extensions are disused at present and their demolition would make way for an extended outdoor area.

It is also hoped that the pub will be given a full external redecoration and new outdoor flooring, timber pergolas and modern seating will be put in.

In a statement to planners, the pub’s owners say that they hope the changes will enhance the character of the existing building. They add that the alterations are vital to ensure the pub remains a viable business.

The plans can be viewed at Kettering Council offices in Bowling Green Road or online at
