The popular Proms in the Park event is returning to Rushden at the end of month as the town wraps up a bumper summer of activities.

A number of events have been held in the town throughout the summer, including Get to Know Rushden, Party in the Park, and the Rushden Jam, and Proms in the Park will act as the season finale.

The final event is being organised by the mayor of Rushden Cllr David Jenney, who said he is hopeful it will be a great night.

He added: “Hopefully it will be a fun night, with lots of flag waving too.

“We’re hoping people will bring along a picnic, some chairs, and enjoy the music.”

Tickets are now available for Proms in the Park, which will be held at Hall Park on Saturday, August 31.

It will take place in the Walled Garden of Rushden Hall Park, from 7pm to 9pm. Gates open at 6pm.

Tickets, priced at £5, are available from the library, Rushden Town Council offices at Rushden Hall and the jewellers PW House, in Rushden High Street.

The proceeds of the event will go to the mayor’s charities, which so far include the Rushden Branch of the Royal British Legion and Rushden Sea Cadets.

The Windmill Band, conducted by band leader Stephen Bell, will perform all the old favourites from Land of Hope and Glory to Jerusalem, and Rule Britannia to the National Anthem.

Singing will be led by local singers.

During the interval there will be a display by the Rushden Army Cadets.

Cllr Jenney added: “The event has become a traditional highlight of the late summer in Rushden.

“We will be providing a flag for people to wave and hope that people will support this event which will also help my charities.”

People are encouraged to bring their own chairs, rugs and picnics.

There will be no seating or bar provided.

Tickets will also be available on the day, on entrance to the event from 6pm.
