A principal has been appointed for the new Corby Primary Academy which is to open in temporary accommodation in September.
Nikki Lamond is joining the school from Braybrook Primary School in Peterborough.
The school in Butland Road, which will serve Oakley Vale estate, is sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust.
Building work was held up last year when rare great crested newts were discovered at the site and the new school will now open in September 2014.
Nikki said: “This is an exciting prospect, particularly as the academy is brand new.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of setting up this new academy and working with colleagues across the country to develop best practice.”
The principal will be supported by Lynda Valentine, a senior executive principal (primary) for the foundation trust, who has responsibility for a number of academies in Nottingham, Bedfordshire and Leicester.
She supports the principals on a day-to-day basis, sets challenging targets and ensuring schools comply with the trust’s values.
Corby Primary Academy will open in temporary refurbished premises at the former Exeter Junior School, Corby.
Four classrooms, a hall, dining facilities, office accommodation, a play area and a car park have been created.
The school will operate separately from Exeter Primary School.
