A branch of the Post Office based in a town store is set to close in January.
Customers will no longer be able to use the Post Office services offered from the Co-op food store in Alexandra Road, Corby, from January next year.
Notice has been given to the Post Office, and bosses say they are now trying to find new premises so they can continue to provide a service to customers in the town.
A spokesman from Central England Co-operative said: “We can confirm that the society has given notice to close the Post Office within its food store on Alexandra Road, Corby, with a proposed closure date of January 2016.
“However, we are working with the Post Office Ltd and actively seeking a new operator for the Post Office in a new location.
“The difficult decision to close the Post Office has been taken following a full review and has indicated increasing losses projected in future years.
“Like other retailers, we are constantly adapting to retail challenges at a local level along with further competitive pressures such as online sales and this decision is necessary to protect the long-term future and growth of the society as a whole.”
The spokesman was unable to say how many jobs would be affected by the Post Office closure or confirm whether the food store would remain open.
However, the Post Office has said it remains committed to its customers in Corby and they want to hear from any retailers who would be interested in working with them.
A Post Office spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Central England Co-operative has given us notice that they will no longer be operating Corby Post Office branch from January 2016.
“Customers should be assured that The Post Office is committed to maintaining Post Office services to customers in Corby and will work hard to ensure this.
“We will be seeking alternative premises for the Post Office so any local retailers interested in this business opportunity should visit http://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/business-opportunities for more information.”
